During the Fourth of July celebrations in Nome, Nome Kennel Club president Neil Strandberg presented Tyler Johnson with the Golden Hammer award for exceptional volunteerism. The award also went to Evan Booth and Ken Morton who were unable to attend the ceremony. Evan, Ken and Tyler performed complete renovations at the Topkok Shelter Cabin in a two-year, multi-phase effort.
Without their hard work and the enormous help of the Iditarod Historic Trail Alliance this project would have not been possible. A heartfelt thank you from NKC, the board and everybody who ever used the shelter cabin in undoubtedly the harshest stretch of trail.
